Building Integrated Photovoltaics
Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) are solar materials that are used to replace conventional building materials in parts of the building envelope such as the roof, skylights, or facades. It is suitable for new construction as well as retrofit projects, both offering an alternative power source to traditional grid electricity.
ADVANTAGES:
- Architecturally clean
- Eliminates transmission and distribution losses
- Offsets the cost of facade / roofing / glazing or other materials
- Load and support structures not required
- Reduces energy consumption and/or peak loads requirements
- Provides premium power for Sensitive manufacturing processes & Building emergency services
DISADVANTAGES
- Although the cost is offset by the replacement of other material, certain types of BIPV must grow in global demand to have it universally affordable, however the specific project use/intent must be considered
